Liverpool defender Nat Phillips is a subject of interest from Leeds United

According to the Athletic (subscription required), Leeds United are interested in signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips during this summer window.

The report reveals that Leeds are interested in the player irrespective of who their next manager will be.

Liverpool will demand a fee in the region of £10m for a player whose contract at Anfield runs until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt).

Short on regular game time at Anfield, Phillips had an encouraging loan spell at Bournemouth when the Cherries were in the Championship during the 2021/22 season.

The 26-year-old made a total of five senior appearances for Liverpool last season. Hence, if he intends to leave the club in view to play regular minutes, we cannot fault him for that.

Moreover, having seen him do well in the Championship, his game would suit him well in that league. Therefore, Leeds getting him for potentially £10m would be a great business for them as well.

For the Reds, it is an opportunity to vacate one slot in the squad and get some cash that can be used to make signings in the summer window.

After a good start with the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, things have gone quiet in the market. Let’s hope the work is going behind the scenes to get the necessary additions done before the pre-season kicks off.

Regarding Phillips, it would be great for him to make a move this summer and play the games needed for him to develop further as a player. He is 26 now and should be playing more to become that ‘Premier League standard’ player. Whether he can do that at Leeds and help them get back up a division, we will wait and see.
