Aberdeen are interested in signing Liverpool defender Rhys Williams who is available on loan
As per Liverpool Echo, Liverpool defender Rhys Williams is expected to go out on loan this summer with Scottish side Aberdeen interested in signing him.
Williams, who spent the first part of the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons on loan at Swansea City and Blackpool respectively, has grown up the ranks at Liverpool.
During the 2020/21 campaign, when Jurgen Klopp was short on centre-backs due to injuries, he partnered Williams with Nat Phillips for the final part of the season which led to the Reds winning a series of games and sneaking into the top four.
The former England U-21 international is a decent centre-back who is aerially good, and can pass the ball well but lacks a bit of pace. He can do well at Aberdeen and see how his game bodes in the Scottish league.
Liverpool do have a good recent relationship with Aberdeen, having signed Calvin Ramsay from there last summer and Leighton Clarkson’s loan spell going pretty well. The latter has now joined them on a permanent deal too.
Moreover, with the options the Reds have in central defence, there is no point in keeping Williams in the squad just for making the bench or playing for the U-23s all the time.
He is 22 now and should be looking to play more to develop his game to a level where he can ply his trade for a Premier League club regularly for example.
If his loan spell at Aberdeen goes well, it won’t be a bad idea to convert that into a permanent move and get in a decent fee we can use elsewhere.

It is all good talking about potential player departures at the moment, but Liverpool should be looking to get players in to bolster the squad, especially in the midfield and defensive departments.
