Levi Colwill speaks on his Chelsea future amid Liverpool links

Levi Colwill, the talented young defender currently with Chelsea, has opened up about his uncertain future amidst interest from Liverpool and other clubs. The 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Brighton, has seen his profile rise even further after his impressive performances for England’s victorious Under-21 team in the European Championship, where they didn’t concede a single goal.

However, he faces tough competition at Chelsea, given the depth of talent available to new manager Mauricio Pochettino. This uncertainty has left Colwill contemplating his future, with Liverpool among the interested parties, as reported by the ECHO earlier this year. Speaking to The Times (Subscription Required) on his future, here is what he said:

“I’ll speak to my family, speak to everyone I need to and make a decision. I’ve got to play at the end of the day to hopefully get there [England senior team] and go to the next camp.”

Colwill’s versatility as a left-sided defender could be a valuable asset for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side, especially if they continue with the system tested in the latter stages of the previous season.

The young defender understands the critical juncture he finds himself in and recognises the need to make the right decision for his career progression.

Colwill to the Reds?

Moreover, the lure of playing for a club like Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s ability to develop young talent, must be enticing for Colwill. Joining a club of Liverpool’s stature could provide him with the platform to showcase his abilities on a bigger stage and accelerate his development as a player.

Having said that, Colwill has not hidden his admiration for Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, which could make things easy. Ultimately, Colwill will need to weigh up his options carefully and consider what path is best for his career.

Liverpool’s interest, combined with the prospect of regular playing time, may sway his decision.

However, the final call will rest with Colwill and his support network, as they assess the opportunities that lie ahead.
