FC Andorra signs young Liverpool defender Anderson Arroyo on loan

According to the official Liverpool website, young Liverpool defender Anderson Arroyo has completed a season-long loan move to Spanish side FC Andorra.

Arroyo signed for the Reds back in 2018 from Colombian club Fortaleza. Since then, he has spent every season on loan somewhere in Europe, mostly in Spain.

The 23-year-old was at Alaves and Mirandes in the last two seasons before joining the fellow second-division Spanish side Andorra this time around.

The Colombia U23 international is a right-back who can operate as a centre-back if required. In his career so far, Arroyo has played 102 games, assisting two goals.

The played signed a contract extension at Anfield last summer. Let’s hope he gains valuable experience playing for Andorra and helping them push for a top-flight promotion. He did that by playing for Alaves last season and was successful in it.

Arroyo is not one of those typical modern right-backs who would bomb up and down the field and be more comfortable operating in the opposition half.

The 23-year-old is a physically strong player who is good at passing and has decent pace. He reads the game well defensively. There is a reason why he can easily slot in a centre-back when required.

While all these loan moves are good for his experience and development, Liverpool must think about the player’s permanent future when he comes back to the club next summer.

It would be better to sell him if there is no intention to keep him at the club. There is no point in continuing to loan a player out season in season out.

The other side of the coin would be Arroyo catching the eye in his latest loan spell and pushing for a place in the side at Anfield in 12 months’ time.
