Liverpool must fork out £70m for Fabinho replacement with PL experience

Liverpool face a steep price tag of £70m for Cheick Doucoure

The transfer market is heating up, and Crystal Palace has reportedly set a hefty price tag of at least £70m for their talented midfielder, Cheick Doucoure. This news has caught the attention of Liverpool, as the Mali international is well-liked at Anfield.

That is according to Daily Mail via ECHO. Contrary to a file report from ECHO earlier this week with claims of about £35m, this new development means that the Reds would have to pay a substantial sum to land the former Lens player. The 23-year-old was Crystal Palace’s Player of the Year in his debut season at Selhurst Park.

As the potential departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson loom large, Liverpool keep a close eye on possible replacements. Doucoure’s impressive performances at Crystal Palace have not gone unnoticed by the Reds, who see him as a suitable candidate to bolster their midfield.

As mentioned earlier, with the possibility of Fabinho and Henderson making their moves to the Saudi Pro League, Liverpool’s midfield is likely to undergo a significant reshuffle. As such, securing a top-quality replacement like Doucoure is of paramount importance.

Doucoure to the Reds?

Doucoure’s playing style and attributes fit well with Liverpool’s high-intensity, pressing game under Jurgen Klopp.

While he is not among the best progressive carriers of the ball, he could play those pings to wingers and also put in a hard tackle whenever the situation needs to. Style of play-wise, he is extremely similar to Fabinho.

Liverpool could replace Fabinho with Cheick Doucoure.

While there would surely be doubts about bringing him over to Anfield, one must remember 2018 when Fabinho himself joined the Reds. Initially finding it tough to see himself into the starting XI, he slowly and gradually made his way into the team more often than not and eventually established himself as a guaranteed starter.

However, the £70m price tag set by Crystal Palace could be a potential stumbling block for the Reds. While Liverpool are known for their strategic and substantial investments, only time will tell if they will meet the Eagles’ demands. The Reds will have to weigh the benefits of securing a top-class midfielder against the financial implications of such a hefty transfer fee.
