Liverpool are planning to make a £40m offer for PSG midfielder Marco Verratti
As per a tweet from Turkish journalist and transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Liverpool are planning to make a first offer of £40m to sign PSG midfielder Marco Verratti in this summer window.
While the link sounds strange because Verratti is now 30 years old and Liverpool do not generally sign players of that age group, especially under Jurgen Klopp, the latest midfield departures could spur a bit of action.
Fabinho is all set to leave for Al-Ittihad while a fee has been agreed in principle for Jordan Henderson to play for fellow Saudi side Al-Ettifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard.
Here’s what Konur tweeted regarding the Verratti interest:
“Liverpool are planning to make an opening bid of £40m to PSG for Marco Verratti.”
Verratti has been at PSG since 2012 when he moved from the Italian side Pescara. He was a youth product there before making a senior debut.
He can play as a defensive midfielder as a lone number six or in a midfield pivot. The Italian international is one of the best passers of the ball who likes to tackle, win the ball back for the team and at times cross the line of discipline too.
While there are doubts about whether he would fit in the Klopp system at Anfield, his age is enough to suggest to us that it is highly unlikely that Liverpool will sign him.
We are linked with a younger target Romeo Lavia of Southampton. There are links with Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure too. The Reds are backed in a corner where they have to sign a minimum of two midfielders (defensive-minded) in the coming days.

It would be better if they are done before it is too late in the summer and the new signing takes time to settle and we start the season without a specialist defensive midfielder. A busy few days are upcoming for the club!
