Bayern Munich monitoring late swoop for Saudi-bound Liverpool midfield star

Bayern Munich could make a move for Liverpool midfielder Fabinho should his Al-Ittihad deal fall through

As per a tweet from Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, Bayern Munich will look to make a move for Liverpool midfielder Fabinho should his Al-Ittihad deal falls through.

It is also revealed that the Brazilian is close to moving to Saudi Arabia with Liverpool wanting to make this happen as soon as possible.

A few days ago, the Reds received a £40m offer for Fabinho from Al-Ittihad. He was left out of the pre-season travelling squad to Germany with the transfer in mind.

Here’s what Plettenberg tweeted:

“News #Fabinho: Bayern is monitoring his situation closely! Fabinho, close to join Al-Ittihad as Liverpool wants to finalize the deal soon. Bayern aware of it. #LFC

“But: If the deal falls through, he would be interesting for Bayern! He fits into the profile. Bosses have a top relation to his agent Jorge Mendes.”

Either way, it feels inevitable that Fabinho will leave Liverpool in this transfer window. His five-stay at the club was a massively influential one in the club winning all the trophies possible.

Looking at it from the other side, the 29-year-old had been feeling the effects of playing a lot of football in his first three or four seasons for the Reds.

Hence, there was a visible drop-off in performance levels in the last 12-15 months. Last season was probably his worse not just in a Liverpool shirt, but the whole career.

Keeping all those things in mind and knowing that he will turn 30 soon, it made a lot of sense to accept a 40m bid from the Saudi club.

That money could be useful for Liverpool to sign their targets in the midfield. The only is that Jurgen Klopp now needs to find an experienced defensive midfielder who can come in and replace Fabinho in the team straight away.

The money must be there now with the Brazilian’s sale. The Reds are also set to coup £12m from the Jordan Henderson transfer to Al-Ettifaq.

Coming back to Bayern possibly signing Fabinho, it looks unlikely at the moment unless Al-Ittihad performs a transfer U-turn.
