Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to not leave the role at Anfield to take over the Germany job

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirms that he won’t be leaving the club until the end of his contract to take over the role of managing Germany.

Klopp reveals that managing the German national team would be a “great honour” but he is going to respect his contract at Anfield before thinking about the future. Hansi Flick is under massive pressure, but it seems like Klopp won’t be the one to replace him.

The German signed a new deal with the Reds at the back end of the 2021/22 season. His current contract lasts until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Here’s what the boss said about managing Germany and staying at Anfield (h/t The Athletic, subscription required):

“The job of national coach is and would be a great honour — there’s no question about that. The problem that stands in the way of the whole thing is my loyalty. I can’t just leave Liverpool now and say I’ll take over Germany for a short time. That doesn’t work and the request isn’t even there.”

Although we never question Klopp’s loyalties, it is nice to hear that he will be committed to the job at Anfield regardless of what happens with the German team.

After what we witnessed last season at Liverpool, the coming year would be one of transition from the previous team to the next. Now is the best time to have a manager like Klopp

overseeing this change before he thinks about leaving.

The 56-year-old has it in him to build another team from scratch and show to the world that he is not just a seven-year spell manager.

We are seeing signs of a change already with clever signings in the summer so far. More of the same is expected in the coming days before the next season starts. The Reds should do better and challenge the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City for the title.
