Joshua Kimmich is a potential option for Liverpool as Bayern Munich could sell the midfielder

As per German outlet Kicker (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are put on red alert as Bayern Munich are open to selling their midfielder Joshua Kimmich this summer.

The report reveals that Kimmich and Leon Goretzka are not ‘untouchables’ in the Bayern squad anymore. The club hierarchy would be open to selling them.

The former has been linked with a move to Manchester City in the past. A reunion with former Bayern boss Pep Guardiola was mapped out. But, that hasn’t happened yet.

Kimmich’s current contract at the Allianz Arena runs until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). Having started his career as a right-back, the German international is now a full-time defensive midfielder.

Liverpool are searching for a player of that profile because Fabinho is set to leave for Al-Ittihad and Jordan Henderson will sign for Al-Ettifaq.

The Reds have been linked with a move for young Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia for some time now. But, even if they get the Belgian, the need for one more would be there because of the dual departure.

Kimmich, 28, has the quality, experience and versatility to play in various midfield positions. He can of course operate as a number six too.

It would be interesting to know whether Jurgen Klopp sees this as an opportunity to sign the Bayern midfielder. Not often does it happen that the German champions are open to letting one of their prized assets go during his peak years.

At 28, Kimmich can easily play for another four or five years at the peak of his powers. The profile of the player suits the way Liverpool play under Klopp. The club should do their best to try and sign the German international this summer.
