Fabio Carvalho reveals he did not speak to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp before RB Leipzig move
Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho has revealed that he did not speak with Jurgen Klopp prior to the youngster’s temporary move to RB Leipzig this summer.
The 20-year-old signed for the Reds in 2022. However, in the ongoing transfer window, the Portuguese national has joined the Bundesliga outfit for the 2023/24 term.
Speaking via Manuel Veneth of Transfermarkt (h/t Liverpool Echo), Carvalho did not take any advice from the gaffer before making his switch to Die Roten Bullen.
“I don’t really speak to him, to be fair. He didn’t really give me any advice. I just had to learn as I go, and I feel that is better for me to mature anyway.”
In the previous campaign, the Portuguese made a bright start at the Merseyside outfit. Initially, Klopp seemed to trust the youngster and provided him with an abundance of opportunities.
However, the midfielder’s minutes dwindled as the season progressed. He ended up making 21 appearances in all competitions for the Anfield side, finding the back of the net three times.
Carvalho made his way through the youth ranks at Fulham. The 20-year-old broke into the Cottagers’ starting lineup in the 2021/22 term and had a breakout campaign.
But a move to Liverpool seemingly came a bit too early for the youngster. At the Reds, there are more eyes and expectations from players. Unfortunately, the Portuguese was unable to make a place for himself in the German manager’s plans.
However, Leipzig are evidently a decent destination for Carvalho to grow. The Red Bull Arena side have been a competitive team in Germany over the years. Dominik Szoboszlai is one of the stars who grew at the Bundesliga outfit.

It remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old will be able to make a mark at Die Roten Bullen and get regular game time. Hopefully, the Portuguese will thrive next season and come back to the Anfield side as a better player overall.
