Barcelona target Thiago is now ‘expected to stay’ at Liverpool

Barcelona have been linked with a summer move for Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who came through La Masia until leaving them in 2013 for Bayern Munich.

SPORT stated earlier this month that Barcelona are attentive to Thiagoi’s situation at Anfield. The Reds would apparently not force the player out of the club but they wouldn’t be against listening to offers.

Thiago, 32, is in the final year of his contract at the club. At this and at this point in a player’s contract, it isn’t a surprise that Liverpool would consider selling him, even if he is as brilliant as Thiago.

But for those who love to see Thiago play in Liverpool colours (and we are guessing it is all of us), David Ornstein has a positive update. He told the Five YouTube channel:

Thiago to stay

“Maybe some thought it would have been Thiago Alcantara, but he is expected to stay at the club.”

Thiago can pass, shoot, defend and compete in aerial battles with distinction in our midfield. There is hardly anything that he cannot do.

Keep him fit, and you have a midfield capable of challenging anyone in the world. The situation has been complicated by Jordan Henderson’s sudden move to Al-Ettifaq.

James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain’s free transfers didn’t hit us that much because they weren’t really first-team starters. Ox and Naby were totally sidelined towards the end of their stints on Merseyside.

We seemed ready for the season with the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. But Hendo’s exit means we may not only have to keep Thiago but also sign another midfielder. Romeo Lavia, anyone?
