Chelsea ready to pay €50 million for Sporting CP defender and Liverpool target Goncalo Inacio

Premier League rivals Chelsea are ready to pay €50 million to Sporting CP for Goncalo Inacio amidst interest from Liverpool, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net.

The Blues have set their sights on the Portugal international in the ongoing transfer window to bolster their backline. Mauricio Pochettino is an admirer of the 21-year-old centre-back.

To that end, the Stamford Bridge side are willing to pay big bucks to acquire the services of Inacio this summer. However, the West London club are not the only team in the race for the defender.

Liverpool have their eyes on the Portuguese. Apart from the Reds, Newcastle United have the centre-back on their radar as well. He is also attracting interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Inacio made his way through the youth ranks at Sporting CP and is now a pivotal member of their starting lineup. The defender was also handed his national team debut for Portugal against Liechtenstein in March 2023.

At Chelsea, the centre-back position has lost Wesley Fofana for an extended period after his injury. However, they still have an abundance of talent in their defence, with Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill at Pochettino’s disposal.

On the other hand, Liverpool showcased defensive frailties last season. Virgil van Dijk, who has been appointed the captain after Jordan Henderson’s departure, was not at his best in the 2022/23 term.

Over the years, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate have been injury prone. As a result, we have not had a stable partnership in our backline, which has arguably hampered us.
