Southampton are set to receive a new bid from Liverpool to acquire the services of Romeo Lavia this summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The Reds had an offer rejected for the Belgium international by the Saints recently. To that end, the Merseyside outfit had decided last week to make a fresh proposal and are now ready to do so.
Liverpool have already been given the go-ahead by the 19-year-old regarding a switch in the ongoing transfer window. Now all that remains for the Anfield side to do is come to a consensus with the Hampshire-based club.
Romano wrote on his Twitter:
“Liverpool will bid again for Romeo Lavia, no doubts; it was already decided last week and club now ready to submit new proposal to Southampton.
“There’s already green light from the player, it depends on Liverpool to agree fee with Southampton now.”
Lavia made his way through the youth ranks at Manchester City. The Belgian made a couple of competitive appearances for the Sky Blues before Southampton came calling for his services last summer.
At the St Mary’s Stadium side, the midfielder enjoyed an impressive debut campaign. He made 35 appearances in all competitions for them, scoring one goal and providing one assist. However, the Saints were relegated last season.
The Hampshire-based club were unable to survive the drop. They lacked solidity defensively. Despite the Saints’ struggles, Lavia managed to catch a lot of people’s attention.
At Liverpool, the middle of the park has seen an exodus with the departure of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita this summer. We have lost a lot of depth in the engine room.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been signed. We also have Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott in our ranks. However, Jurgen Klopp arguably needs a defensive midfielder at his disposal.
Lavia still has a long way to go in his career. However, the Belgian has shown that he is capable of thriving in the Premier League. But whether the Reds will get a hold of the midfielder’s signature in the coming weeks remains to be seen.
