Liverpool urged to sign Khephren Thuram from OGC Nice to replace Fabinho
Former Liverpool ace Jermaine Pennant has urged the club to sign Khephren Thuram, who he considers a ‘young Gerrard’, from OGC Nice to replace Fabinho this summer.
The Brazil international has completed a switch to Al-Ittihad from the Reds in the ongoing transfer window. We have also lost Jordan Henderson to Al-Ettifaq.
Speaking to Lord Ping (h/t Express), Pennant, who spent a few years of his playing career on Liverpool’s books, believes the French national has the quality to reinforce the Merseyside outfit’s engine room.
“Liverpool should sign ‘young Gerrard’ Khephren Thuram as their Fabinho replacement – he’d be an upgrade on Henderson. I’d like to see Liverpool sign Khephren Thuram, he plays for Nice and he’s a box-to-box midfielder.”
Thuram has been at Nice since the summer of 2019. Over the years, the midfielder has grown from strength to strength and has developed into one of the most promising prospects in football.
The 22-year-old is a versatile box-to-box player capable of playing as the number eight or in the pivot position. In the previous campaign, the youngster was a key player for the Ligue 1 outfit, making 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing eight assists.
This summer, Liverpool have seen an exodus from their engine room. At the end of June, James Mile, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita officially parted ways with the Anfield side.
Subsequently, we did sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig to bolster the middle of the park.
However, we have now lost two key players in Henderson and Fabinho in the same window. Their experience and quality will arguably be missed by the Reds next season. More importantly, we evidently need to add another talented midfielder to our ranks in the coming weeks.

Liverpool could evidently do with someone with the leadership and skill set of Gerrard in their ranks right now. Thuram has shown a lot of potential in recent months. But whether the Reds will make a move for him remains to be seen.
