League One side in talks to sign 19-year-old Liverpool starlet

Liverpool academy forward Max Woltman is a subject of interest for Oxford United

According to Liverpool Echo, League One side Oxford United are working towards a deal to sign young Liverpool forward Max Woltman this summer.

Woltman, who has been with the Reds since the age of seven, signed a professional contract with the club in 2021. He has signed fresh terms since too.

The 19-year-old was on loan at Doncaster Rovers for the first half of last season before returning to the Liverpool U23 side in January. During his loan at Doncaster, he only made 14 appearances and was on the field for 379 minutes (Transfermarkt

Woltman has made two senior appearances for Liverpool. He got his debut in a Champions League group-stage game against AC Milan in 2021. It was a late cameo role off the bench.

The young Englishman is a versatile forward who has played in quite a lot of positions so far in his career. If we look at the numbers, he has 45 times as a number nine, 12 times as a left winger and 10 times as a support striker (Transfermarkt).

He is a talented young player who could do with regular minutes for a first-team squad somewhere. That is unlikely to happen while he is at Liverpool.

So, it would make sense to send Woltman to Oxford on a permanent deal and hope he flourishes there. The 19-year-old has already been playing pre-season games for the League One side.

If he does well next season, an offer may arrive from clubs in the Championship and the progression can take place from there.
