Report: Jurgen Klopp keen to reinforce key first XI position before the summer transfer window ends

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing in a new centre-back this summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains keen on signing a left-sided centre-back before the transfer window closes. This interest is amid doubts over Andy Robertson’s long-term capabilities in a hybrid role. Although adding at least one new midfielder is his priority, Klopp is still looking to strengthen his defence by adding a new centre-back to his squad.

This is as per The Mirror. The Reds have already made two signings this summer, with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai joining the Reds. However, Klopp is still looking to add more players to his squad. Levi Colwill, who saw himself linked with a move to Liverpool after impressing on loan at Brighton last season, is no longer an option after he signed a six-year deal at Chelsea.

Liverpool’s defence has been a cause for concern in recent seasons albeit due to injury issues or performance-related problems.

Liverpool FC’s defending was shabby last season.

Klopp’s interest in signing a left-sided centre-back is understandable, given that Robertson is only one of two natural left-backs in the squad . Robertson has been a key player for Liverpool in recent seasons, but Klopp is reportedly concerned about his long-term capabilities in a hybrid role as is the case with Kostas Tsimikas.

Another centre-back to the Reds?

Injuries to key players and inconsistent performances have exposed the team’s lack of depth at the back, and Klopp

is keen to address this issue before the start of the new season.

The inclusion of a left-sided centre-back would provide the necessary balance to Liverpool’s defensive lineup. This player would not only complement Robertson’s forward movements but also strengthen the team’s defensive solidity.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains keen on adding a centre-back to his side.

As the deadline day approaches, Liverpool’s fans are eagerly awaiting news of potential signings. The anticipation is for midfielders to join the club, but the fact of the matter is, we need reinforcing in both departments.

Fans will certainly be hoping that the club can secure the services of a new defender before the transfer window closes on September 1. Although the priority still remains bringing in a midfielder as the depth in that department is worse than that of the defence.
