Southampton star Romeo Lavia backed to agree five-year deal with Liverpool

There is hope for positive developments when it comes to the Romeo Lavia and Liverpool transfer saga. The young Belgian has an agreement in principle with the Reds over a five-year deal and it is up to the clubs at the moment to agree on a fee for the player.

Interestingly, Liverpool are readying a third bid of £40m+ add-ons for Lavia after their first two bids had to face the wrath of rejection at the hands of The Saints. A report from Sacha Tavolieri, via Paisley Gates [h/t ECHO] suggests that Lavia will agree on a five-year deal with Liverpool as he awaits the go-ahead to undergo a medical ahead of a move to the Reds.

“Lavia waits for the green light to take his medical tests with the Reds. Liverpool will make a third and ultimate attempt to sign Lavia from Southampton.”

“They want to seduce the Saints with 40 million euros + bonuses for the young Belgian. Lavia has a 5-year contract at Anfield.”

Tavolieri in fact says that this agreement has been in place for quite a while now, and was only subject to the clubs agreeing on a fee. As soon as that happens, and the medical goes through, the five-year deal for Lavia at Anfield will take the forefront.

Following the exit of so many midfielders over the transfer window already, Liverpool surely need to reinvest in their squad and get on board at least another midfielder and a centre-back. At the moment, to compensate for the loss of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Arthur Melo and Fabio Carvalho (loan), we have signed only Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Lavia to the Reds?

While these two players are top-notch, we also need other players to make the squad competition-worthy. Moreover, we have lost all these players who have played so much football. Getting on board only youngsters is surely not enough.

We need to get in someone who can straightaway adjust to the settings of the Premier League, and the style of play at Liverpool. Lavia was among the best young midfielders in the league last season, and having him on board is surely going to yield results in the long run.

However, the only problem with youngsters is consistency and the Reds cannot concede on that front after the season they had last time around.

The transition from speculation to reality appears to be on the horizon, and the inclusion of Romeo Lavia in Liverpool’s ranks could potentially mark the beginning of a new chapter at the Reds. Hopefully, the Saints accept this offer as there is not a long time to go for the season opener against Chelsea.
