Former Liverpool player Jermaine Pennant wants the Reds to sign Khephren Thuram

Former Liverpool midfielder Jermaine Pennant has cast his gaze toward a potential addition to the Reds’ midfield ranks as he wants Khephren Thuram of OGC Nice to join the Merseysiders.

As we recover and rebuild our squad from the recent departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi, the question of midfield reinforcement looms large. Here’s what Jermaine told Lord Ping via ECHO:

“I’d like to see Liverpool sign Khephren Thuram. I think he would be perfect. He’s skilful and he can tackle too. He’s like a young Gerrard, basically. He’s a Jude Bellingham-type player and he’d be your Fabinho replacement and he could play with Alexis Mac Allister.”

“He could cover the whole of midfield like a better Henderson.”

Pennant’s endorsement of Thuram as a prospective candidate holds weight, given the Frenchman is an active target for the Reds.

Described as “skilful” and possessing an aptitude for tackling, Thuram’s attributes evoke comparisons to legendary figures like Steven Gerrard. The prospect of a “young Gerrard” is surely enticing.

Drawing parallels to Jude Bellingham, another rising star in football’s constellation, adds depth to the assessment of Thuram’s potential impact. The mention of Thuram as a Fabinho replacement raises eyebrows, suggesting the young talent’s ability to anchor and dictate play from midfield—a role that Fabinho executed with finesse during his time with Liverpool.

The notion of Thuram forming a formidable partnership with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in the heart of Liverpool’s midfield is one of balance.

The Frenchman can provide the defensive cover for the other two to move from box-to-box.

The complexities of player recruitment, negotiation, and team dynamics play into the larger narrative of the club’s future. Recent weeks on that front haven’t been too great for the Reds.
