Liverpool could make an offer for Fluminense midfielder Andre who has a release clause of €40m
According to Brazilian outlet NetFlu (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool could return with their interest for Brazil and Fluminense midfielder Andre with an option to trigger the €40m release clause.
Fluminense are reluctant to sell one of their key assets in the middle of a season since domestic campaigns in Brazil start in April and end in December. At the moment, the Brazilian side are third in their league table and have reached the quarter-final of the Copa Libertadores after beating Argentinian club Argentinos Juniors.
A few days ago, at the time when Southampton rejected the second bid from Liverpool for Romeo Lavia, The Athletic (subscription required) revealed that Andre is one of the alternatives the Reds are looking at if the Lavia deal does not happen.
Since then, the links with the former have dried down to an extent while we have seen Southampton rejecting a third bid for the latter.
It looks like the transfer operation team of Liverpool is working either with their hands tied financially or they are trying to be oversmart in a market that has surpassed their cunningness.
The penny-pinching hasn’t worked in the Lavia deal and the Reds will go into the first game of the season against Chelsea without a recognised defensive midfielder.
That was probably the reason why Jurgen Klopp said after the final pre-season game that he needs to find a team and formation only for the game against Chelsea and not the whole season.

Either the boss is expecting signings to be made before the deadline, or he is just going to try out a few things and see which one works. Not an ideal situation to be in after a horrendous last season.
