Championship side Southampton are confident that Liverpool will pay the excess £5m to secure the services of Romeo Lavia.
Following two rejected bids, Liverpool recently launched a third offer for Lavia worth £45m only for that to face the wrath of rejection as well. Southampton are clear in their stance and want £50m for the player. Liverpool think that this amount is too much to pay for a player with only one season of senior football under his belt. However, according to Sacha Tavolieri via Twitter, Southampton are under the belief that Liverpool will pay the £5m outstanding to land Lavia.
Been told #SouthamptonFC think now that #LiverpoolFC will pay the 5M£ lacking for making the deal of Romeo #Lavia after the 45M£ rejected on Monday. #SaintsFC won’t walk away from their initial request of 50M£. #LFC #mercato Talks ON.
Assuming that the people at the club understand the ground reality much better than fans, it should not have gone to a point wherein the Reds have already bid three times for a player, and that too unsuccessfully. A club of the Reds’ stature should at max, try and negotiate and bid twice, or else move on. However, this situation is urgent, and Liverpool NEED midfielders. Why not just bid on Southampton’s valuation instead of dragging matters on for this long?
Personal terms were never posing a problem to Liverpool’s pursuit of the player. Hopefully, the depth of the midfield situation is clear to Jorg Schmadtke and Co. and we launch a bid that The Saints accept and let go of Lavia.
As the transfer window ticks on, the coming days may hold the key to resolving the Lavia conundrum. The belief that Southampton holds, that Liverpool will fulfil their end of the bargain, hints at a tantalizing possibility for Liverpool faithful.
It’s a waiting game now, a dance of negotiations and expectations that could shape the trajectory of the Reds’ midfield for the upcoming season. As the transfer window winds down, the negotiations surrounding Lavia’s potential move will likely come to a head.
While the pricing may not be as per Liverpool, the potential addition of a player to a midfield crying for reinforcements holds much more importance at the moment.
Ideally, Lavia should have been here two weeks ago. Better late than never though, we hold out hope that this saga ends before the Chelsea game.
