Liverpool pondering club-record move to hijack Chelsea’s midfield target

Liverpool are planning a transfer hijack to sign Chelsea target Moises Caicedo

As per the latest update from Paul Joyce for The Times (subscription required), Liverpool are in talks with Brighton to make a club-record move and hijack Chelsea’s chances of signing Moises Caicedo.

We know that the Ecuador international is priced at £100m by the Seagulls. Chelsea have had several bids rejected because they didn’t touch that magical figure. The last rejected bid was worth around £80m.

If the Blues cannot get this deal done and Liverpool get a green light, we could see the Reds breaking

their transfer record to make a move for the 21-year-old.

There is optimism but with a bit of caution because it seems as if the player’s heart is still set on a move to Stamford Bridge. Joyce has referred to that and reported

that Jurgen Klopp would like a chance to speak to the midfielder and lay out his plans.

If the conversation between Klopp and Caicedo does happen, we can back our manager to make the most of it and turn the player’s head towards signing for Liverpool. But, we are yet in a stage of hope. The reality, one way or the other, will strike in the next 24 hours because Fabrizio Romano has revealed that all the parties want this saga resolved by Friday night.

The reason behind that soft deadline could be the fact that Chelsea and Liverpool meet in their Premier League opener at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Hence, if the transfers are sorted before Saturday, we could have a normal game of football with both clubs knowing that they have in their squad.

It is good to see Liverpool finally acting like a big club in the transfer market. After pulling out of the Jude Bellingham move late last season, there was a danger that the Reds won’t be in the market for top-tier players. If the Caicedo move happens, the landscape changes again.
