Former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane says Diogo Jota could challenge for the golden boot

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane recently shared his perspective on Diogo Jota, shedding light on the Portuguese striker’s potential to vie for the illustrious Golden Boot. Jota remained injured for most of last campaign, but when he returned towards the end, he was brilliant.

Keane praised Jota’s clever movement and runs, saying that he plays similarly to how Keane himself played when he was a professional. The 26-year-old scored seven goals and eight assists in 28 appearances across all competitions last season. The player missed 16 league games due to two different injury issues. Speaking of Keane, here is what he told Betway via ECHO on Jota:

“When he’s playing down the middle, Jota is one that I think plays kind of similar to me when I was a professional, in terms of when he arrives into the box,” he continued. “I think he’s very good at that, very clever with his movement and runs.”

“If you keep him fit, he could get up there to challenge for the Golden Boot.”

Jota’s potential to challenge the golden boot is not baseless. Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s current top scorer and three-time golden boot winner, is again a top contender for the award this season alongside last year’s winner, Erling Haaland. Our #20 is probably the most clinical player in front of goal, and coupled with his composure levels, there’s little reason why he cannot compete with the best for individual trophies.

Jota’s potential to challenge for the golden boot will depend on his fitness. Last season, he was injured for most of the campaign, which limited his playing time. However, when he returned towards the end of the season, he made an immediate impact, scoring crucial goals for Liverpool. If he can stay fit this season, he could be a key player for Liverpool and a contender for the golden boot.

These three players will fight for a spot in the frontline assuming Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz start most games on either wing.
