Southampton boss Russell Martin expects quick solution to Romeo Lavia situation amid Liverpool and Chelsea links

The stretch in the transfer saga surrounding Romeo Lavia is not an ideal situation for the player himself, interested parties in Chelsea and Liverpool, and current employers Southampton.

However, the Saints’ boss Russell Martin expects that the situation surrounding Lavia will soon come to an end and also hopes to find a quick solution to his transfer saga involving Chelsea and Liverpool. Here is what he told reports ahead of their clash against Norwich via football.london:

“He trained well with us today. I won’t ask him to start after the minutes he’s had and what’s been going. It’ll be resolved very soon I’m sure. It’s been very fluid so far.”

Despite interest from Liverpool and Chelsea, Lavia still trains with Southampton. This suggests that there’s no agreement between the clubs, and that Lavia is still very much a Southampton player for the time being. Chelsea reach an agreement with Southampton and Lavia, while the Reds need to accelerate their interest to land him or else, it might end up with us having neither of our recent targets in Moises Caicedo and Lavia.

Also, Martin confirmed that he will not ask Lavia to start against Norwich on Saturday. This suggests that Lavia may be close to leaving Southampton and that the manager does not want to risk him getting injured before a deal is done.

What next for the Reds?

Far from ideal situations for Liverpool given Caicedo wants to move to Chelsea, Saints have an agreement with them. To add to this, we play nobody but Chelsea this weekend potentially facing two of our longest-chased transfer targets. Egg on our faces if this saga does not end in Liverpool’s favour.

The next few hours, potentially, hold the key to Liverpool’s season. We need to find ways to agree on terms with so many parties involved and at least try and register midfielders ahead of the Bournemouth game if not this weekend.

Overall, it’s difficult to predict what will happen with Lavia’s future. The fluidity of the situation, as Martin alluded to, adds an element of intrigue to the unfolding narrative.

If Liverpool are able to sign Lavia, he could be a valuable addition to the squad and a player to watch in the years to come. If not, a quick move on to other targets is what the Reds need.
