“Should not happen”- Jurgen Klopp downplays Saudi interest in world-class Liverpool superstar

Jurgen Klopp dismisses Saudi Arabian interest in Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson Becker

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has dismissed links of Alisson Becker moving to Saudi Arabia in the ongoing transfer window.

The Brazil international is the latest player from the Reds to attract interest from the Saudi Pro League. This summer, the Middle Eastern country have already signed Jordan Henderson and Fabinho from the Merseyside outfit.

However, speaking to the media Liverpool Echo, Klopp rubbished talks of the goalkeeper moving away from the Anfield side. The German manager revealed that the club had received no offers for the 30-year-old.

“That should not happen. Ali can play for another 10 years probably. Fab not and Hendo not, that’s a massive difference. Nobody came to me so far.”

Saudi Arabia have managed to entice some of the biggest stars in football in recent months. It started with Cristiano Ronaldo joining Al-Nassr in January.

Subsequently, in the ongoing transfer window, the Saudi Pro League has managed to get a hold of the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The latest big-name player to move to the Middle Eastern country is Neymar.

However, Saudi Arabia have only mostly managed to get players in the final years of their career. To that end, it would not make sense for Alisson to move to a league that will not be able to play in the biggest competitions in football.

Liverpool signed the Brazilian in the summer of 2018 from AS Roma. Since then, he has been one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League. The goalkeeper has lifted the Champions League as well as the league title at the Anfield side.

Alisson is still relatively young for a goalkeeper. The shot-stopper still has several years left at the top of the game. Also, it would be unwise of us to part ways with him.

On the bench, the Reds have Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian. If we do end up parting ways with the Brazilian, the Merseyside outfit will have to find a new number one to solidify the backline.
