RB Leipzig want Liverpool-linked Stade Rennais defender Arthur Theate

In what could prove to be detrimental to the Reds’ transfer plans, RB Leipzig want Liverpool target Arthur Theate of Stade Rennais.

The 23-year-old Belgian international is a centre-back who could also play left-back. Liverpool would greatly benefit from the services of a left-sided centre-back which could help Jurgen Klopp set his side up in a 3-5-2 setting.

Theate, however, also finds himself on the radar of RB Leipzig as per Sacha Tavolieri via Twitter. Our two league games until now have been enough reason to reinforce our defence. Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield was the guilty party for the goal we conceded against Bournemouth. And the Chelsea match showed us numerous moments that were enough proof that our defence and midfield still have gaps that need filling.

The 3-5-2 setup would offer added stability, potentially mitigating the risk of such lapses. In this formation, Theate’s presence would bolster the defensive line and enhance the fluidity of the team’s build-up play from the back.

Theate to the Reds?

RB Leipzig’s interest signifies other top clubs’ acknowledgement of Theate’s potential, further complicating Liverpool’s pursuit. Until now, we have got on board the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo. Even though we have signed these three players, our midfield still lacks a guaranteed starting quality defensive midfielder.

In addition to that, we need a centre-back. A left-sided at that would be great, and that is where the links with Theate make sense for the Reds. Hopefully, Leipzig’s interest in the player is not as severe as it sounds at the moment, and the Reds find a way to get the player on board.

The excitement surrounding a potential game-changing tactical shift is juxtaposed with the apprehension of losing out on a valuable asset to a competitor. Supporters are well aware that even the most meticulously crafted transfer strategies can be derailed by the unpredictable dynamics of football’s transfer landscape. The saga involving Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia is enough proof of the same.
