Liverpool win appeal to overturn the Alexis Mac Allister red card vs Bournemouth

As per a statement from Liverpool FC, the club has won the appeal to remove the three-game ban on Alexis Mac Allister for his red card against Bournemouth.

Mac Allister received a straight red card in that game when he challenged for a 50-50 ball against Ryan Christie. On the face of it, it looked like a yellow card tackle. But, the referee thought otherwise and sent the Argentine off, much to the bemusement and shock of the player and his teammates.

After the game, even the Bournemouth manager Adroni Iraola thought that the decision was a bit harsh on the player.

Here’s what the club wrote in their statement:

“Alexis Mac Allister will not serve a suspension after a successful appeal against the red card he received during Saturday’s victory over AFC Bournemouth.”

It is such a relief that we have to come to this decision because losing a player like Mac Allister for three games would have been a body blow for Jurgen Klopp.

Moreover, it is not as if the Argentina international made a stupid tackle to deserve that sort of punishment anyway. Liverpool had to play the last 35 minutes of that game with 10 men. That was harsh enough on the players for a decision that was completely wrong by the referee and the VAR.

Keeping this in mind, we shall expect the 24-year-old to be available for an important game against Newcastle United this Sunday.

With Wataru Endo now in the squad, it won’t be a surprise to see Mac Allister playing in his natural number eight position alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, leaving the mopping-up duty to the Japanese international.

Although it is still very early in the season, a game against a potential top-four rival is as important. Liverpool cannot fall behind the chasing pack just like they did last season.
