Manchester City make an initial offer to sign Liverpool target and Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes

According to tweet from Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have made an initial offer of around €50m in an attempt to sign Wolves midfielder and long-term Liverpool target Matheus Nunes. Personal terms are not deemed to be a problem here.

Back in January, it was revealed in The Athletic (subscription required) that the Reds were interested in signing Nunes from Sporting CP last summer. But, the player signed for Wolves instead.

At the time, the Telegraph (subscription required) reported that Liverpool would come back for the 24-year-old during this summer window. As it turned out so far, nothing is advanced on that file.

In fact, City are now looking to sign him as they aim to bolster their midfield (as if it needs doing). The long-term injury to Kevin de Bruyne could be the reason why they are looking to add another midfielder. According to David Ornstein, they are eyeing a move for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze too.

While Wolves won’t entertain an offer for Nunes so late in the window, every player has an asking price regardless of the time. City are definitely not short on money and can make this deal happen if they want (the reason why other clubs fail to compete with them).

If we look at it from Liverpool’s angle, Nunes is clearly a very good player. But, having signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai along with having Curtis Jones in the squad, the Reds do not need the former anymore.

However, we would hope that City miss out on him and for once Pep Guardiola gets in a situation to find the solution from within the squad rather than doing it through a transfer, just like on every occasion.

While Liverpool are not expected to be in the title race, seeing City further improve their squad wouldn’t be heartening to see. Having said that, they have an endless pot of money. They can do whatever they want!
