As per a tweet from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Saudi side Al-Ittihad have shortlisted Liverpool defender Joe Gomez for a potential move this transfer window.
These state-backed clubs in the Middle East aren’t going away, are they? We have seen constant links between Al-Ittihad and Mohamed Salah in the last few days. It is irritating because Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has stated many times that the Egyptian king is not for sale
.Coming back to the Gomez news, they want to sign the Englishman as he is versatile and can play anywhere across the back line. The relief is that Liverpool have no intention of selling players this late in the window.
Is a coincidence that a day after playing well against Saudi-backed Newcastle United, Gomez gets linked with a move there? Maybe not!
They do not care at the moment and are going after every possible top player in the market. In the game against the Magpies which Liverpool won in miraculous circumstances through Darwin Nunez, Gomez showed why he is still an important member of the squad.
Moreover, the 26-year-old signed a new deal with the Reds last summer. He is still at an age where an injury-free season can get him back to the levels he reached during the 2019/20 title-winning season.
Al-Ittihad should not bother targeting Liverpool players this late in the window. The problem is that their window runs for 19 days more than the ones in the UK and Europe.
Hence, they might use big money as an attractive proposition to target players like Gomez or Salah and Liverpool may get left stranded if the financial package is too good to turn for the player and the club.
