As per Miguel Delaney for the Independent, Liverpool could consider the possibility of signing Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi before the deadline of this transfer window.
It is also revealed that the Foxes would be willing to do business. The Reds, on the other hand, have been interested in Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure but the price tag is an obstacle.
It is no secret that Liverpool are looking to sign players in the next three days. The squad needs one addition each in the midfield and defensive department. Whether they can get both remains to be seen.
The Reds lost out to Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia and have since signed Japan captain Wataru Endo. They need another midfielder added before the Friday night deadline.
Among the players linked, Ndidi is a new name on the circuit. The Leicester midfielder is a versatile player who can either play as a number six or in central defence. He has played in a double pivot before as well.
At 26, the Nigerian international is at the peak age of his career. Although a very good player on his day, he is susceptible to being inconsistent at times.
Although signing a player from a Championship club would be good financially, Liverpool can do better than signing Ndidi, with all due respect to the player and the form he showed during his time with the Foxes several years ago in the Premier League.
The Caicedo bid showed us that the club has the money to burn in this transfer window. They haven’t spent much since that time (only signed Endo). The money should be put on the table to sign a player of Doucoure’s ilk.
If they get the latter, the midfield would become of a standard that can help the team challenge for the league title. But if that pursuit fails, Ndidi would be better than getting nothing. No doubt the player would be intrigued by the chance to leave a Championship club and play for 19-time champions of England.
