Liverpool are interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz

According to CBS correspondent Ben Jacobs, via Teamtalk, Liverpool have internally discussed the possibility of signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz before the end of this window.

The report further reveals that while Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the player, Villa would be reluctant to sell him, that too so late in the window. Any Liverpool move for him would cost them £60m.

Luiz signed a new deal with the Birmingham-based club last summer, extending his stay there till the summer of 2026. The Reds made a late attempt to sign him 12 months ago before ending up with Arthur Melo on loan.

The 25-year-old is a dynamic midfielder who can either play as a six or in a double pivot. He can operate as a number eight in a three-man midfield too.

The former Manchester City player is a combative midfielder who likes to get stuck in tackles, has a good passing range and is good at delivering set-pieces, especially corners.

If the report by James Pearce for The Athletic (subscription required) is to be believed, Liverpool are not specifically looking to sign a number six. They are instead aiming to get a player who can operate in different positions across the midfield.

We know the club has been linked to Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch for some time now. A move for him is not out of the equation.

But, Luiz is also similar in profile, if not in stature to the Dutchman. Let’s see which way Liverpool turn to in the next three days.

Time is running out and things need to speed up in the background. One thing is for sure that the Reds must sign another midfielder before the Friday night deadline. Failing to do so would be such a bummer for the season ahead.
