Liverpool eye a move for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly
The Reds’ pursuit of defensive reinforcements continues to be a hot topic, and the latest name in the mix for Liverpool is that of Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly.
That is according to 90min via ECHO. Kelly, who previously saw himself linked with the Reds, is in the final year of his current contract with Bournemouth (Transfermarkt). However, he has no intentions of extending his deal with the Championship club, paving the way for a potential move to the Reds.
This development has put Liverpool, Tottenham, and Newcastle in a three-way race to secure Kelly’s signature. Each club is keen to bolster their defensive ranks, and Kelly’s availability on a free transfer next summer makes him an attractive prospect.
The 24-year-old is a left-footed centre-back who can play left-back as well. At 1.9m, he stands very tall in the backline and the Reds, in case Kelly moves to the Reds, could shift to a back-three as well which will give manager Jurgen Klopp a lot of tactical options which could mean that player rotation is much more effective.
Kelly to the Reds?
Liverpool’s interest in Kelly underscores their commitment to shoring up their defensive options. While the club boasts a formidable attacking lineup, defensive stability has been a focal point of Jurgen Klopp’s tactical approach. Kelly’s versatility as a defender adds another layer of intrigue to his potential arrival at Anfield.
Liverpool’s defensive lineup has seen its fair share of changes and challenges in recent times. Injuries have occasionally disrupted the backline, prompting the need for versatile and dependable defenders who can step in when required.
The competition for Kelly’s signature is expected to be intense, with Tottenham and Newcastle also vying for his services. These Premier League clubs are aware of the importance of bolstering their squads, and Kelly’s availability on a free transfer makes him an enticing option.
