Trabzonspor wants to sign Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara before the Turkish transfer window closes on September 15
Super Lig side Trabzonspor are considering a last-minute move to sign Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara, as the Turkish transfer window remains open until Friday.
Turkish outlet Aksam (h/t the Liverpool Echo) states that the Black Sea club is planning a move for the Spanish international. Trabzonspor recently made an important signing by bringing in Nicolas Pepe from Arsenal.
Thiago, who has yet to feature for Liverpool this season due to injuries, might be tempted into a move to Turkey at the age of 32.
This summer, Liverpool missed out on signing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both went to Chelsea, but they successfully secured Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.
While the English transfer window closed on September 1 and the Saudi window closed on September 7, the Reds still face potential transfer activity as the Turkish transfer window remains open until Friday, with the veteran star possibly heading there.
Thiago‘s contract with the Anfield side is set to end this season. Given Liverpool’s decent performance even without him, they might be considering letting the veteran midfielder depart. However, parting ways with a talent of the midfielder’s calibre could be a difficult decision for the club to make.
Considering Liverpool’s recent additions to their midfield, Thiago may find himself in a situation where he is frequently rotated in and out of the starting lineup. Hence, if Trabzonspor presents an attractive offer for the former Bayern Munich star, Jurgen Klopp’s side might make a wise choice by allowing their player to leave.
Despite the risk of facing a midfield shortage until January, the Reds’ financial gain from such a deal could have long-term advantages.
Additionally, Thiago might be interested in a move to Turkey for a lucrative contract, and Trabzonspor’s ambitions in the transfer market could make them an attractive destination.
