Howard Webb is ready let Liverpool chiefs listen to VAR conversation following Tottenham controversy

According to The Telegraph (h/t The Mirror), Premier League giants Liverpool are set to be handed a boost as Howard Webb is set to grant the club chiefs access to the conversations that took place in the VAR room during the 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

The monumental clash in North London last weekend turned into a faux pas as the referees took centre stage. The Reds were at the wrong end of the stick and saw themselves privy to several questionable decisions.

One major talking point came in the first half when Luis Diaz gave the visitors the lead with a sensational finish that left Guglielmo Vicario grasping air. The celebrations were cut short as VAR ruled the goal offside, agreeing with the assistant referee’s decision on the field.

Replays and the rather rushed decision made by VAR raised suspicion and it has now blown up after the game. Howard Webb called the Reds to tender the apology but a club statement released shows that the Reds are in no mood to brush it under the rug.

While the club has not asked for the match to be replayed, it has not stopped naysayers from trying to belittle the seriousness of the issue. The Reds, however, are seeking accountability and have also asked for the VAR audio tapes.

Given that the decision makers had no issues in releasing tapes against Jurgen Klopp and Virgil van Dijk in the past, one would assume the shoe is one size fits all for everyone.

With the Reds pushing for accountability, PGMOL chief Webb is expected to bend the knee. Once the conversation is released, it remains to be seen how the issue progresses.

It means little for the agencies to apologize and then not go on to come up with solutions for issues that call the sporting integrity of football into question. As long as clubs refuse to fight back, they have little initiative to make a telling difference. History has shown us just that.

Despite the unfairness of the issues, Liverpool showed heart and desire in the game even when down to nine men. The club often thrives under adversity and hopefully, the us vs them mentality will once again aid us in the long run.
