Liverpool are facing immense competition to sign Lucas Beraldo

Liverpool are currently one of several clubs interested in the promising Brazilian defender Lucas Beraldo. The 19-year-old Sao Paulo prospect has drawn huge Premier League attention per a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Birmingham Mail)

The left-footed center-back has impressed scouts with his defensive skills, anticipation, and ability to carry the ball forward. Liverpool, Newcastle, and Wolverhampton are said to be among those monitoring Beraldo along with teams across Europe.

Liverpool are viewing Beraldo as a potential successor to their aging star defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip.

Wolverhampton allegedly had a bid for the Brazilian teenager rejected last window before signing Uruguay’s Santiago Bueno. The young Brazilian Beraldo has earned 38 caps for Sao Paulo this season, including a Copa do Brasil final victory over Flamengo.

Beraldo comes as a golden opportunity for the Reds. Their star defender and skipper Van Dijk is 32 years old and will soon enter decline. Signing the 19-year-old would allow Liverpool to develop the talented bud into a world-class talent.

Beraldo has also attracted attention from other European clubs SL Benfica, FC Porto, and AS Monaco. Surely the Reds will need to move fast if they are to win the race for his signature.

Sao Paulo, aware of the widespread interest their young gun has sparked, are carefully evaluating all offers and looking to develop the starlet in the best way possible.
