Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher will miss the Union Saint-Gilloise clash tonight
According to popular journalist Paul Joyce, Liverpool number two Caoimhin Kelleher would have been in line for a start against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League tonight will be missing the game with an injury that supposedly requires stitches.
Apparently, the talented young goalie will also not be joining the Ireland squad for national duty due to the same issue. It will be a huge miss for the player than the club as such as these are the kind of competitions he gets a chance in.
Caoimhin Kelleher has been playing second fiddle to our Brazilian number-one Alisson Becker for quite a few seasons now. Such has been the quality that he has shown in these opportunities that it is a huge surprise he is still a backup goalie for us.

With all the talent and immense potential that he possesses, it is only a matter of time before some club snaps him up to be their number one. Let’s be realistic – it is not going to happen at Liverpool any time soon due to the presence of Becker.
Now, Alisson is easily one of the best goalies in the world and there are not many things he can’t do. Great at shot-stopping and playing out from the back, he has bailed out the Reds on numerous occasions when the shaky backline in front of him has let him down.
Kelleher would have been hoping that opportunities in the Europa League and in the cup competitions this season would have propelled him to the limelight and help him attract interest from other clubs next summer.
Today would have been one such opportunity but sadly, he is going to miss out. The silver lining is that this could be the only game he misses and he should be in action soon after the international break for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
In Kelleher’s absence, there is little doubt that Alisson will start the game tonight against the Belgian side. It is not going to be much of an issue for Liverpool and with no disrespect to the Irishman, it might be a blessing in disguise.
