Bayer Leverkusen to allow Xabi Alonso leave if Liverpool want him in 2024

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is making waves with his project in the Bundesliga. As the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, he has changed his side’s fortunes after taking charge late last year.

This season, heading into the international break, Leverkusen sit on top of the table a solitary point clear of Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich in second place. While Jurgen Klopp has been the best manager Liverpool could ever find, contingencies are absolutely essential in the world of football.

We all would want Jurgen to sign a lifetime contract at the Reds but the reality is far far away from our dreams. At some point or the other, we must be ready for a Liverpool team that is not coached by the German.

That is where our former Spaniard midfielder comes in. Xabi has an excellent track record so far and already has a couple of other clubs eyeing his services. The likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and of course, Liverpool all show interest in Alonso.

Leverkusen would allow Alonso to leave the club in 2024 if there is mutual interest from the Reds. That is from SportBILD, via Focus (h/t ECHO).

Should Real, Bayern or Liverpool approach the Spaniard for his services, there is an agreement that he can leave. While it is unlikely that the Reds might approach him in 2024 given Klopp’s deal, the development is surely one to keep an eye out for.

19 points from 21 available in the Bundesliga is no small feat. And topping the table ahead of Bayern Munich is much more tough. While the initial months of Xabi-ball have been great, we will get a much clearer view once we approach the end of the season.

Hopefully, Alonso can continue to shine in his managerial role and potentially return to the Reds in the future in a similar capacity. Whether or not that is in 2024, is a tough one to answer, but highly unlikely given Klopp’s irreplaceable stature at the club.
