Gareth Crooks lauds ‘lethal’ Liverpool star Mohamed Salah following Brighton draw
Football pundit Garth Crooks believes Liverpool are fortunate to still have “lethal” Mohamed Salah providing terrific goals this season. Crooks named Salah in his Team of the Week after the Egyptian scored in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Brighton.
Despite the Reds dropping points, Crooks feels Salah’s continued goalscoring exploits are a major positive. The Egyptian continues to dazzle in red and was once again the go-to man for Jurgen Klopp’s side at The Amex.
In his recent BBC Team of the Week column, Crooks suggested Salah has distracted from issues like Alexis MacAllister underperforming since joining Liverpool from Brighton. According to Crooks, Salah’s consistency remained Liverpool’s lifeline in the Brighton clash.
“Going back to play against your old team is never easy, as Alexis MacAllister quickly found out. The former Brighton favourite failed to collect a pass Virgil van Dijk had no right to give to him in the first place, and was then glared at by the Liverpool captain for not doing more with an appalling pass. Fortunately, Liverpool have Mohamed Salah who is looking lethal in front of goal again these days, and with no interference from VAR this week the Reds came away with a worthy point.”
Ever since his arrival from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has been a bright spot for the Reds. He has become the record man of the club. l. Following his move to Anfield in 2017, he became Premier League’s Player of the Season after scoring 32 goals in 2017–18.
He was also awarded the Premier League’s Golden Boot award three times, an award given to players who score the most goals in a season. This is indeed a remarkable achievement for a winger. Salah has scored 192 goals and racked up 83 assists in 315 appearances for the Reds across all competitions. This is indeed a marvellous return on investment for £34.3m Liverpool spent on him.
Beyond his exploits on the pitch, Salah’s footballing accomplishments have made him an emblem of national pride for Egyptians and elevated Liverpool’s profile among Egyptian fans. In 2019, Time magazine recognized Salah’s influential status by naming him one of the 100 most influential people in the world that year.
