Trent Alexander-Arnold fondly recalls the unforgettable moment when Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp appointed him as the vice-captain
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold shared some details about the moment when Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told him about the vice-captaincy. The Liverpool-born right-back succeeded James Milner as the vice-captain of his boyhood club from the current season onwards.
The 25-year-old has been a pivotal member of the team under the reign of Klopp. The England international received his senior debut under the German back in 2016 when he was 18 years old.
Since his promotion from the prestigious Liverpool academy, the Scouser right-back has played 280 games till now. He has contributed 16 goals and 73 assists for the Reds so far.
Trent talked about the moment Klopp told him about the vice-captaincy on the “We Are Liverpool” podcast (h/t Liverpool FC’s official site). He said:
“He just goes on to say, ‘Congratulations, you’re the vice-captain of Liverpool Football Club. He says, ‘Nobody knows, don’t tell too many people, but I’ll tell the leadership group tonight. Obviously, Virgil is going to be captain. But well done.'”
The Liverpool boss had a conversation about the vice-captaincy with Trent during a training session in Singapore in July. The camera recorded the conversation, capturing Trent’s continuous nods as the boss conveyed his thoughts.

The Liverpool boss picked Virgil van Dijk as his captain to replace Jordan Henderson. Henderson has served as Liverpool’s captain since the time Klopp joined the club in 2015.
