Christian Falk claims Bayern Munich and Liverpool are still pursuing 22-year-old Bundesliga star

Liverpool still maintain interest in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone

Weeks and months of speculation went in vain as Liverpool decided to opt against a move for Borussia Monchengladbach star Manu Kone in the summer transfer window. Instead, we got on board two other Bundesliga stars, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

Both players have been putting an absolute shift and it won’t be long before these two start taking more control of things in the middle of the park for Liverpool. However, there are still some questions about depth in midfield for Jurgen Klopp’s men, and there remains a possibility that the Reds might still look to add reinforcements to the squad.

To address that issue, the Merseysiders might reignite their interest in Manu Kone, and that is what the belief is in German media.

Liverpool still maintain interest in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone.

According to BILD’s Christian Falk via Twitter, both, Bayern Munich and Liverpool maintain a keen interest in Kone. 62 appearances for Monchengladbach across all competitions, the Frenchman has four goals and two assists to his name.

Kone to the Reds?

While he mainly operates in central midfield, Kone can also play in defensive midfield adding that aspect of versatility to any squad he features in. However, we also got on board Alexis Mac Allister on board knowing he could play as a defensive midfielder.

Macca has been great for the Reds so far, but to see his talents on the ball wasted in a position where he cannot put his best foot forward is a frustrating watch for Liverpool fans. We would rather him play advanced roles than just protect the backline. He might be good at it, but he’s the best at something else.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich transfer target Manu Kone.

We need out-and-out players, who can be versatile according to the situation. Kone is a fantastic talent, but until and unless we are firm on whether or not we need a specialist central midfielder or a defensive midfielder, there is no point going into the market to buy bits-and-pieces players.

From the present scenario at the club, it seems like we would best benefit by signing a specialist DM, like Fabinho instead of bringing a jack of all trades, and a master of none.
