Darren Bent says Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai is a better summer signing than Kai Havertz
We all love our #8 wearing midfielders, especially if they can stay fit for prolonged periods of time and can whack a ball from a distance. Dominik Szoboszlai has been absolutely world-class for Liverpool and long may his form continue. Ever since his debut in the Premier League, the player has been delivering the goods for the Resds on a constant basis.
Whether it is man marking or relentless running in the middle of the park, Szobo is everywhere doing everything. When we watch him play, it sits right that we called this summer transfer window one of a midfield rebuild, and it seems like one because of players like him and Alexis Mac Allister.
His impact on Liverpool is possibly greater than any other summer signing’s impact on their respective teams this season. Darren Bent of talkSPORT echoes this opinion in the latest edition of their podcast.
“I like Szoboszlai, I think he’s got that sort of panache about him, that little bit of x-factor. I like watching him play. He gets on the ball, makes things happen,”
“I can tell you now Szoboszlai’s been better than Havertz.”

Szobo, in 11 games for the Reds across all competitions, has scored two goals. Havertz, on the other hand, has a goal and an assist in 12 appearances across all competitions. While both players are playing in the midfield, their roles are significantly different.
Szobo for the Reds
Havertz is a central attacking midfielder who links up play between the two midfielders behind him to the forwards ahead of him while Szobo is much more box-to-box and has a larger share of defensive contribution to the side as well. While it is difficult to compare two players who do not play the same role, impact-wise, the Hungarian has had quite a start to his career in the red of Liverpool.
Comparing the two players directly can be challenging due to their differing roles and responsibilities within their respective teams. However, there’s no denying that Szoboszlai has had a remarkable start to his Liverpool career, making him a fan favourite and leaving many to agree with Bent’s assessment.
As the season progresses, Liverpool supporters can look forward to more mesmerizing performances from Dominik Szoboszlai, who has quickly become an integral part of the Reds’ midfield. His unique style and versatility offer Jurgen Klopp valuable options as Liverpool seek to maintain their position among the Premier League’s elite after a tough last campaign.
