Barcelona in the race alongside Liverpool and Manchester City for Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu
Lecce’s 18-year-old left-back Patrick Dorgu has been garnering the attention of top European clubs including Liverpool. The list of clubs showing interest in the player is surely interesting. The Denmark U21 international can play left-back as well as left midfield.
Speaking of the Reds’ interest in the player, a left-back at this point in time seems more of a want than an absolute necessity. Either we bring a left-back who can also play central defence or leave that department until the summer.
With a potential formation change in the brewing on Merseyside, Jurgen Klopp could play a 3-5-2 with two wing-backs in the future to explore Trent Alexander-Arnold’s creative best. While the current hybrid formation is somewhat yielding results, we need a stronger presence in the backline on the left side.
Not saying that Andrew Robertson or Kostas Tsimikas are incapable, but if we could do with much more versatile options, might as well try that out.
Dorgu to the Reds?
At 1.85m, Dorgu is not an ideal-sized centre-back, but that’s far from it. We can only judge him after we watch him play in that particular position. Nevertheless, as reported by Sport Witness from the latest newspaper edition of Gazzetta dello Sport via ECHO, the latest update has the Reds alongside Manchester City and Barcelona as the three interested parties keeping the closest eye on his progress.
We have good options at left-back including Robbo himself and Kostas Tsimikas so that is not an area of immediate concern. However, if the club actually decides to go ahead and buy someone to bridge a gap that they see, it would be best if they can bring on board a player capable of playing central defence as well.
That would solve two issues with one transfer, and there’s absolutely nothing like it when a player offers the manager multiple options.

Speaking of Dorgu again, he has an assist from nine appearances across all competitions this season, and it would be wise if the club waits before taking any transfer decision with this particular player. Take nothing away from the talent he is, but Liverpool might find better options that suit their requirements.
