Ian Doyle expects Liverpool to sign a defensive midfielder as Thiago Alcantara’s replacement

Liverpool appear highly likely to pursue a new defensive midfielder in the upcoming January transfer window, as per insights from Ian Doyle

Writing in a recent Q&A for the Liverpool Echo, Doyle addressed questions about potential departures and contract renewals at Anfield. In response, the leading LFC writer strongly indicated that the club is set to acquire a player for that specific position in the new year.

Trusted journalist Ian Doyle would be surprised if Thiago Alcantara is offered a new contract at the end of the season.

“In terms of other contracts, I’d be surprised if Thiago is offered one or even agrees to sign one. And I fully expect Liverpool to sign a defensive midfielder whether in January or next summer. It might be Andre, it might not. But that they already like him will be a big help.”

This statement from Doyle provides a substantial clue about Liverpool’s impending transfer plans, further bolstered by his esteemed status as a Merseyside reporter.

Currently, the Reds have been linked heavily with a move for Brazilian midfielder Andre Trindade.

At present, the Reds have been consistently linked with Brazilian midfielder Andre Trindade. Jurgen Klopp has overhauled his midfield this season with the arrival of players like Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endu.

Securing the 22-year-old Andre as a potential long-term midfield option is a top priority. Doyle opines that it would be quite surprising if Liverpool extended Alcantara’s contract.

According to reports, Liverpool had already offered €30 million to Fluminense in order to get their hands on Andre this summer. But Fluminense had answered with a defiant no.

Doyle’s insights hint that Klopp and Liverpool will seek to reach an agreement for the Brazilian international in January.

In the midst of what promises to be a tightly contested Premier League title race, bolstering their midfield is paramount for the Reds. Doyle leaves no doubt that Liverpool is expected to act promptly to address this need.
