Danny Murphy urges Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to drop Cody Gakpo for Darwin Nunez
Darwin Nunez has been in wonderful form for Liverpool this season. His blistering pace and threat on the counter are a problem for any backline in world football.
Even with his scintillating run of games, he has found it tough to gather enough minutes this season and that is partly due to the absolutely world-class talent Liverpool have in their frontline.
It is sad but that is what the situation is like for the 23-year-old Uruguayan striker now. However, Danny Murphy urges manager Jurgen Klopp to give Nunez a run in the starting XI instead of Cody Gakpo.
Here is what Murphy had to say on the situation speaking to talkSPORT via X (h/t The Mirror):
“He will score goals, he must be a nightmare to play against. If he plays for you all the time, will he get you 20 goals? I think he would, I think he will. I think he looks capable. I think he looks quick, good in the air, huge.”
“Look, Liverpool have got good options in attacking areas. When you play the best team, him down the middle, Diaz and Salah right and left is the way I’d be playing. Not Gakpo. And I like Gakpo.”
While Liverpool boast a wealth of attacking options, Murphy believes that when facing the top teams, deploying Nunez down the middle with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah on the wings is the most effective approach.
Murphy is confident that Nunez can provide the team with a significant goal-scoring threat, and his unique skill set would make Liverpool even more formidable.
The competition for places in Liverpool’s attacking lineup is fierce, but Nunez’s potential to add more goals and a different dimension to the team’s attack could make a significant impact. In ten appearances across all competitions this season, Darwin has four goals and three assists.
