Glen Johnson tells Liverpool not to sign Jarrod Bowen as Mohamed Salah replacement

Even if the Reds planned to get him on board, the idea of Liverpool signing Jarrod Bowen from West Ham United at this point in time will be tougher than ever due to his recent contract extension at the London Stadium.

It is no secret that the Reds eyed Bowen as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah in the long term if the Egyptian King decides to move on from his time on Merseyside and explore new challenges in the Middle East amid monstrous bids for him.

However, there is a different opinion brewing. Former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson believes that Bowen is currently at the peak of his powers, and does not have anything else to offer apart from what he already has been doing in East London for so long.

Johnson does not think Bowen is anywhere near Salah’s level and says he has already reached his potential with the Hammers. The ex-defender does not believe he can improve much more. Here is what he told Betfred (h/t Express):

“I don’t know if he possesses what’s needed to kick onto the next level. He’s evidently been playing well for West Ham and scoring goals, but to suggest that he can replace Mo Salah at Liverpool is a completely different league,”

Salah is the best winger in the league

While the former England international’s opinion is understandable, the foundation of the statement seems a tad bit weak. Even when we signed Mo back in 2017, not even the best fortune-teller could predict the way he took the Premier League by storm.

At the same time, we must also know that Salah moving to Saudi next summer is mere speculation. Nobody knows what the season has in store. Judging by his form, Mo does not look like he’s slowing down in terms of goalscoring prowess.

It is best if we give rest to our wants of signing attacking reinforcements for a while. We have plenty of attacking talent in our squad and it the optimum use of any available funds would be reinforcing the backline.

Bowen has a lot of talent, and only time will tell whether or not Johnson’s predictions about the winger are right or wrong.
