Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister felt frustrated with the lack of goals for Argentina against Paraguay in the World Cup Qualifiers
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister talked about his team’s anger over the lack of goals as Argentina beat Paraguay 1-0. La Albiceleste dominated the World Cup qualifiers game after Nicolas Otamendi scored a goal in the third minute.
Mac Allister played a crucial role for Argentina and dominated the midfield alongside Enzo Fernandez and Rodrigo De Paul. The 24-year-old dazzled the crowd with his impeccable passing, beautiful ball control, and ability to dribble in close spaces.
Mac Allister talked to the reporters (h/t X [formerly Twitter]: @Argentina) to explain the reason for his team’s anger. He said:
“All opponents are difficult. We went out onto the field trying to do our best. We were left with the anger of not having scored another goal, especially in the first half.”
Under the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, the Argentine international has found himself deployed in a deeper role. Mac Allister has found it hard to adapt to his new position and made some critical errors at times this season. However, the Argentine has earned praise from Kopites and football pundits for his ability on the ball and decision-making.
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni deployed Mac Allister in a more central role than the advanced role he had before. The tactical change might mean that Scaloni can use the 24-year-old in a way Klopp has used him for Liverpool. However, Scaloni did not use him as the deepest midfielder but he played in a more balanced role as Argentina dominated the possession.

Mac Allister’s dazzling performance almost got him an assist as he dominated the midfield with a 95% passing rate. The Argentine international’s tremendous performance has earned him praise from his nation’s media. Argentina ended the game with 741 passes compared to 252 passes from their opponent.

Klopp has used Mac Allister as his deepest midfielder so far this season. However, the German has tinkered with the tactics for the benefit of his players as we’ve seen with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s inverted fullback role last season. There are still many fans and pundits who doubt the Argentinian’s ability to play as a single pivot No. 6 for the Red. There is definitely no debate or division among fans with regard to his impressive quality and ability.
