Mateusz Musialowski impresses Liverpool coaching staff with his resurgence after failed summer exit
Liverpool youngster Mateusz Musialowski has impressed the club’s coaching staff with his resurgence after staying put despite a rumoured summer exit.
Multiple injury issues and inconsistencies plagued the 19-year-old’s development after his promotion to Liverpool U21. When he transitioned to a central attacking role this season, his performance significantly improved.
The Poland U21 caught the eyes of the Kopites for his incredible performances for the Liverpool U18. The youngster earned the nickname “the Polish Messi” after contributing 18 goals and four assists in 31 games.
Liverpool Under-21s coach Barry Lewtas talked to reporters (h/t Liverpool Echo) about Musialowski after the Blackpool loss for the team. He said:
“He’s been brilliant. This season, in terms of his level of consistency, without question it has risen. He’s taking more responsibility for his all-round game and he commits to every phase of the game now. Defensively he’s strong and buying in. No one can doubt his ability to dribble the ball, he can dribble past most, but he is finding a real consistency in his game.”
Musialowski‘s struggles for consistency impacted his productivity and he received criticism for his all-round work rate for the team. During the summer transfer window, the Polish attacker received interest from various clubs in his home country, Poland, as well as from Austria. The deal never materialized and the youngster is currently in the final season of his current contract.
Musialowski has been sensational so far this season with the desire to prove his worth to the Merseyside giants. The 19-year-old has scored four goals and provided two assists in six games he has played for U21.

The positive assessment from the coaching staff can help Musialowski earn a new contract given that he keeps the consistency. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is well-known for his ability to enhance special talent and give opportunities to the youngster.
Ben Doak has been the reason benefactor as the 17-year-old Scot has featured for the senior team this season. However, the competition at the senior level is very strong and it seems unlikely Musialowski will break in anytime soon. The 19-year-old is still very young and has a lot of development left in order to fulfil his vast potential.
