Liverpool looking to sign Bayern forward Leroy Sane as a potential Mo Salah replacement

Liverpool have identified Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane as the ideal superstar signing to replace Mohamed Salah, and are willing to smash their transfer record to land the Germany international.

With Salah expected to depart Anfield next summer following huge interest from Saudi Arabia, manager Jurgen Klopp has made former Manchester City winger Sane his number-one target to fill the Egyptian’s void.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool are said to be prepared to pay over £80 million to secure Sane. The Reds might eclipse the club record £85m fee spent on Darwin Nunez in 2022. Klopp is said to be keen on bringing the 27-year-old back to the Premier League from Bayern in a blockbuster deal.

Leroy Sane has started this season strongly, netting six goals in seven games for the German champions. But Liverpool hope to tempt Bayern into a sale by lodging a huge bid for a player the German giants bought for £55m back in 2020.

The impending exit of Mohamed Salah to the Saudi Pro League will finance the move, with the Reds anticipating more mammoth offers from Saudi Arabia after rejecting £150m in the summer.

Letting their star attacker leave will be a blow, but recruiting a marquee replacement like Sane would soften it.

The prospect of linking up with Jurgen Klopp and returning to England might greatly appeal to the pacey wideman.

Liverpool preparing for a Salah-less future

However, Liverpool face competition from Real Madrid, who are also monitoring Sane’s situation in Bavaria.

For now, Salah remains committed to Liverpool’s cause, scoring his fifth Premier League goal of the campaign recently. A lucrative switch to the Middle East is expected to happen in 2024.
