Fabrizio Romano gave the latest update on the Saudi Pro League’s pursuit of Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano gave the latest update on the Saudi Pro League’s pursuit of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah. The 31-year-old is an indispensable asset for the Reds and is among the best players in world football.

The Egypt captain has shown no interest in leaving Anfield and continues to consistently deliver top performances for the club. Salah remains a priority target for the Saudi clubs as he is the most reputed Arabic player in the world.

Saudi Pro League’s director of football Michael Emenalo stated that Salah would be welcome to the league whenever he desires.

Romano wrote in his Daily Briefing Column (h/t Liverpool Echo) about the current status of Saudi’s interest in Salah. He wrote:

“Michael Emenalo has recently spoken of his admiration for Mo Salah and the strong interest from Saudi remains, but at the moment there is nothing concrete. Absolutely nothing new at this stage from all sides. Liverpool wants to focus on the pitch and not on rumors, and Salah is focused on doing his best for Liverpool.”

Liverpool signed Salah from Serie A side AS Roma for £36.9m during the 2017 summer transfer window. The Egypt international became an instant fan favourite with his devastating pace and ability to score goals.

Salah has been an unstoppable force for Liverpool, scoring 192 goals and providing 83 assists in 315 games so far.

The 31-year-old has not dropped his level of consistency as he continues to deliver for Liverpool in his seventh season. Salah has made 10 appearances for the Reds this season in all competitions and contributed six goals and four assists.

The Athletic reported that a Saudi Pro League club made a verbal offer in excess of £100m during the Summer. The offer had add-ons that would have taken the price to £150m but Liverpool gave no consideration to it. The Egyptian captain was absolutely not for sale during the summer transfer window.

The Daily Mail reported that Al-Ittihad were ready to make an offer in the region of £200m. However, Salah stayed indispensable for the Merseyside giants and it seems highly unlikely that the stance will change in January.

Salah, a tremendous player cherished by Liverpool staff and teammates, shares an emotional connection with Kopites. Saudis might return again during the 2024 summer window given that Salah’s contract runs until June 30, 2025 (transfermarkt). The Reds will face a daunting task to replace the Liverpool legend with a talent worthy of being Salah’s successor. Rest assured, it will take a colossal offer for the Reds to let go of their Egyptian legend.
