“He said things”- Ryan Gravenberch reveals Virgil van Dijk’s role in helping secure Liverpool transfer

Liverpool summer signing Ryan Gravenberch talks about the role of Virgil van Dijk in securing transfer

The Reds in recent years, have had a lot of successful Dutch players in recent years. The likes of Gini Wijnaldum and Virgil van Dijk have enjoyed a lot of success at Liverpool while Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch and even youngster Sepp van den Berg (out on loan) are still in their early days at the club.

The Pep Lijnders effect you might say! Even Virgil to a certain extent. We all know how important he was in convincing Cody Gakpo to join the Reds in January earlier this year, favouring us against Manchester United.

And very recently, even Ryan Gravenberch talked about the role Virgil played in helping Gravenberch make his decision to move to Merseyside. Following a tough campaign at Bayern Munich last term, it was next to public knowledge that the 21-year-old could do with a move. Enter Liverpool.

Speaking of Virgil‘s influence on him making a decision to join Liverpool, here is what Gravenberch told Sky Sports’ YouTube channel:

“I spoke a little bit with Virg and he said ‘Liverpool are a top club. You’re going to play for sure’,”

“He said things to me and also that gave me a good feeling to come here.”

There are only a few clubs better than Liverpool in the club. Once you’re a home player at Anfield, it is highly doubtful that any other home crowd would welcome you the way Liverpool fans usually do.

Gravenberch for the Reds

Virgil has had his fair share of games as a visitor at Anfield and would know the difference when a player wears the Liverpool crest. He is among the best players to talk about that feeling, and being Dutch as well, it would have surely helped Gravenberch make the decision to move to the Reds, and a right one and that.

Liverpool summer signing Ryan Gravenberch talks about role of Virgil van Dijk in securing transfer.

While the midfield at Bayern had a lesser scope of selection for the player due to the presence of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Gortezka among others, at Liverpool, he will surely get the game time he desires.

The 21-year-old has made an impressive start to life at Anfield, becoming the club’s first player since 2002 – his year of birth – to register a goal involvement in each of his first three starts. Hopefully, he continues performing for the Reds and gives us more reason to celebrate him.
