Manchester City could profit if Liverpool sign Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane
While we might not be there yet, Liverpool have started realising that they need to prepare for life without Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian superstar has been the club’s best player for the past half a decade but he might not be around for too long.
Salah came close to leaving in the summer when the Saudi clubs made a bid worth £150m for the 31-year-old just before the transfer deadline. It would have been very easy for the Reds to be tempted and give in but thankfully, they chose not to.
However, the thing with interest from Saudi clubs is that the lightning does strike twice. In fact, it keeps striking until you have no choice but to give in. It will be a huge surprise if they don’t return for Salah next summer, with an almost similar offer.
At that point, it would only be on us if we are not better armed to live life without Salah. Understandably, it looks like the shrewd brains have already started looking at options and one of them is former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane.
Sane plays for Bayern Munich now after joining them from City in 2020. After a couple of rather indifferent seasons, the German sensation is back to his very best. In fact, one can’t help but wonder if this is the best we have ever seen of him.
Funnily enough, anyone who has seen Sane play this season will realise that more than ever, he now looks like a Pep Guardiola winger than he ever did during his time at Man City. It only goes on to show how well his game has evolved.
Seven goals in 11 games for Bayern Munich this season is certainly a very impressive start. When you are trying to replace someone with six goals and four assists in 10 games, these are the kind of numbers you are looking for.
According to Liverpool.com, the club are willing to discuss terms worth £80m with the German giants to sign Sane should the need arise. In that case, close to £8m of it would go to Manchester City due to the sell-on clause they negotiated when they sold him to the German club.
If Salah was to leave the club, money is not going to be the issue for Liverpool. They need to be very sure that Sane is the right profile to replace Mohamed Salah though. If it were up to us, we would say that he can be a terrific signing.

By signing Sane, we would be putting money into the pockets of arguably our biggest rivals, competitively, at the moment. Ah well, it’s not like Manchester City need us to do them any favours with respect to finances though! Let’s wait and see how this Salah-Sane saga pans out.
